Great advice. Quality subscribers is a lot more powerful than a list of untargeted people. You would have a list of 10,000 subscribers, but if only 100 of those people open your emails, then that 10k number doesn’t mean too much. It’s all about those 100.

Personally I use Aweber and I wouldn’t swap for anything. Without an auto-responder you have no business. OK you may make the odd sale but why just settle for one off sales when you can a reliable auto-responder to build relations with your customers and then go on to make recurring commissions on auto-polite

Hey Luca,

This is definitely true that you need the service, but I believe if you are tracking everything and you are maximizing your conversions both on the front end and on your list, the only thing that really matters is getting your message to as many as possible.

As Mike says, the key item to look out for is the delivery rate.

I use both of the services you have mentioned and two others besides. The key item for any service is always their deliver ability. That should be the first thing you check when looking for an autoresponder.

People join your list for a reason. sometimes that reason is temporary and they will in due course no longer be interested in the topic. Be sure to address their interests and if you hope to keep them for a long term, treat them well with useful information they can use.

You’re right, a good quality list of people who respect you will last a long time and you can see great results from it. It may be tempting to send them a promotional email for the latest hot thing, but if it’s not something that will truly help them, then stay away from doing that.

Great tips, Luca! And with a pre-written autoresponder series it’s easy to keep improving it… Simply track the number of opens and clickthroughs, and always work to improve whichever e-mail is doing the most poorly in the series. If it’s not getting the opens, try various relevant subject lines to improve the open rate. If it’s getting the opens but not the clickthroughs, try changing up the copy – even the linking text you want them to click on. When that e-mail is no longr the worst-performing, start in on the new one at the bot6tom of your ratings.

These are some excellent tips for someone to pay attention to. And you have laid it out very clearly for them to study. I really like the idea of segmenting your subscribers and having a call to action. That way they and you can know if they are serious or just a bunch of tire kickers. Testing as Mike would tell you is oh so important and we could all probably do more than we actually are doing.

I think testing that you mentioned at the end is one of the most important steps to take. We can do all of the other steps the best we think they can be done, but without testing we never really know if what we are doing is truly the right way to do it.
