Email Marketing Essentials #1: Professional Autoresponder Account
One of the most important steps you’ll ever take as an email marketer is choosing and setting up an account with a professional autoresponder service.. With email autoresponder services like Ultimate Marketing Center and Aweber you are able to set up an unlimited number of mailing lists, each one can generate individualized code that you can insert into your opt-in boxes.
By keeping separate lists and segmenting them it’s possible to write your emails so they communicate with specific categories of subscribers who have an interest in that specific subject.
There are many different reasons why setting up an account with a professional email autoresponder service is important, including:
Guaranteed High Deliverability & Performance
By setting up your subscriber list with an reputable and reliable autoresponder company, you can be assured that your emails will be delivered. It’s their job to maximize deliverability rates and enables you to connect to your subscriber base easily and quickly.
Safeguards Your Mailing Lists And Helps You Effectively Manage Your Leads
Professional email autoresponder providers keep frequent back-ups of your database, in the case it gets corrupted or inaccessible. This is really important, because the last thing you would want to do is to start building your list from scratch again. Your autoresponder service provider will also handle all requests to unsubscribe, helps you follow CanSpam rules and provides you with the ability to write as many newsletter emails as you wish and schedule dates and times when you want them to be sent out.
Gives you Valuable Data & Stats To Help You Better Understand Your Subscriber Base
If you are looking at maximizing your open rate and overall response rates, you should study the different features available within your autoresponder account including your average open rate, opt-out rate, response rate and whether any complaints are sent in regarding recent mailings. Knowing how your subscribers react and how well they respond to your emails will help you improve your mailings so that they are more in tune with what your subscribers are looking for. In turn that will result in a better open rates and conversion rates.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is difficult to switch autoresponder providers after you have an established list because your subscribers would have to re-subscribe to your new list in order to keep getting your broadcasts. Keep this in mind when you start building your optin lists and choose an autoresponder service that provides all of the above right from the start.
I personally have accounts with both Aweber and Ultimate Marketing Center. Aweber is strictly an autoresponder service while the Ultimate Marketing Center has multiple services under one roof such as autoresponder, web host, affiliate manager and much more. They are both really reliable and have great customer service but if I had to choose only one it would be the Ultimate Marketing Center. That’s because of the added features and the pricing structure.
Take a look at each of these services and choose wisely as this is one Internet Marketing service that will be a part of your business, actually it should be considered a partner as it plays a major part in the growth of your business.

In my opinion, you are not really in business online until you have an auto responder. Like you I have both aweber and UMC. I started with Aweber and have been a fan for years. They have many nice features, but have had a lot more “issues” in the last year or so. For example today the same list that would have a couple bounces, had over 1.2% of the list bounce. I am lucky to be grandfathered in terms of price at their old fee schedule, but to punish me for that I cannot use the new feature they have developed. I’ve been forming all my new lists on UMC. And had I known about them in the first place I would have set up everything there. Now Aweber does have some features I like a bit better, but they are trivial compared to the cost savings and having not only the autoresponder, but Hosting and an affiliate management system.

Thanks Don, I particularly like UMC because I’m in the process of starting an Affiliate program and it has all the tools necessary. It’s also my web host so I’m saving money by combining multiple dervices. I have to say that the customer service has been excellent
Hey Earl, I’m very happy with UMC. I have to admit though there was a bit of a learning curve but only because I was so used to Aweber. The multiple services not to mention the price was what made me decide to make the switch. I moved my hosting ther as well and noe I’m setting up my affiliate program through them. I did’nt mention in the post is that they also have membership feature too. I have not checked that out yet but I have plans for that too. Not bad for $20 per month

Like you, Luca, I’m a huge fan of UMC – we have 3/4 of our lists there and the balance at GetResponse. One tip for your readers – any reputable autoresponder service also has an affiliate program – promote the service you use enough that you’re making back more than you pay them each month – then youy have the best professional services at no net cost to you!

I use them both and for different things. Like you I run my affiliate program through UMC and Aweber is a bit more expensive but has some features others don’t. The RSS feed automtion for sending to blog subscribers is the big one for me.

I use UMC as well, and I have been very pleased with their service, so many tools for such a low price. I also have a GetResponse autoresponder account, and I am pretty happy with them too.
But yes, without an autoresponder, an online business can only grow so much. You need to be able to follow-up with your visitors.

I truly understand the power of autoresponders now. Like Earl says you need one if you are doing business online. I am aware of UMC just have not tried it out yet. You make some good points about why it should be used so will have to give it a try. Thanks.

I would have to agree, Luca. UMC is my favorite also and I highly recommend it, especially to anyone just getting started in an online business and looking for the most ‘bang for their buck’.
I also use GetReponse and have been very satisfied with their services.
A primary consideration in choosing a sequential autoresponder is deliverability. Some providers suggest that you may have problems delivering your messages to Yahoo!, MSN and Hotmail accounts. One in particular even suggests a website that tracks deliverability to these accounts. Well, guess who owns that site?
The first person you sign up to your autoresponder is yourself. I have email accounts at all the above and UMC has yet to fail to deliver and I have not received any to my spam boxes. It’s so embarrassing to spam yourself!
Good info, Luca! Thanks!
